Cybersecurity Certifications • What’s the point of pursuing a certification? • Certifications don’t actually prove qualification! • It’s possible to obtain a job without a certification! • Having a certification doesn’t guarantee the offer, or even an interview! • The whole certification ecosystem is just designed as a way to get more money from people! • I can just obtain experience through working, which would be more meaningful than a piece of paper!
Cybersecurity Certifications • Why pursue a certification? • "Since these are in many ways complementary to, academic programmes it is common for cyber security professionals to hold several professional qualifications as well as an academic degree. “ • Martin, Prof. Keith M. "Cyber Security Education, Qualifications and Training. " Engineering & Technology Reference (2015): n. pag. Web. • "It is discovered that professional trainings in cybersecurity, project management, IT, cloud computing, and certifications for the Department of Defense, as well as industry certifications (such as Cisco network certifications) are highly demanded. “ • Wei, Arti Mann, Kewei Sha, and T. Andrew Yang. "Design and implementation of a multi-facet hierarchical cybersecurity education framework. " 2016 IEEE Conference on Intelligence and Security Informatics (ISI) (2016): n. pag. Web. • “Cyber security is a highly technical field requiring skilled professionals to develop and protect our digital systems. But what constitutes a well-trained and educated cybersecurity professional? Obviously, they should have a strong IT background. . . They need to understand computer monitoring, processing, system security. . . They must have certifications to verify they not only understand the threats, but also the symptoms and how to identify and mitigate them. ” • Leclair, Jane, Katherine M. Hollis, and Denise M. Pheils. "Cybersecurity education and training and its Reliance on STEAM. " 2014 IEEE Integrated STEM Education Conference (2014): n. pag. Web.
