What is Cyberbullying? Cyberbullying is the act of bullying someone over any piece of technology. It can be through any social media site (Twitter, Facebook, etc. ) or texting. Also called cyber-harassment or cyberstalking. Those who are doing the bullying, there are legal consequences including jail time.
Why is it different? Kids who are cyberbullied are often cyberbullied and bullied in person. It can happen whenever. Kids with this issue are rarely able to get away from it. This can be through messages, pictures, or a video.
Effects Kids who are cyberbullied are more likely to: ● Drink alcohol ● Do drugs ● Skip school ● Be bullied in person ● Have poor grades in school ● Have a low self-esteem ● Have health problems
Kids Health says: “Because many kids are reluctant to report being bullied, even to their parents, it's impossible to know just how many are affected. But recent studies about cyberbullying rates have found that about 1 in 4 teens have been the victims of cyberbullying, and about 1 in 6 admit to having cyber bullied someone. In some studies, more than half of the teens surveyed said that they've experienced abuse through social and digital media. ”
