In the 80’s Curt Jones first began using microbiology to freeze pellet size chunks of cattle feed this let to the freezing of bead size ice cream. While researching different freezing techniques in 1987 Jones created the idea that later became Dippin’ Dots. Dippin' Dots are beads of ice cream cryogenically frozen. They use a combination of natural ice cream ingredients, the same that is in regular ice cream, and flash freeze it into tiny beads.

In 1987 Curt Jones first started to create frozen ice cream beads. In 1994 Curt Jones was named an “Entrepreneur of the Year” finalist.
