Curriculum Process Changes • A few curriculum changes need approvals beyond Faculty Senate before being entered into the catalog • Name changes • Program discontinuances • New majors or emphases • Name changes and discontinuances required approvals by: • President’s Council (President, VPs, CDO) (+1 week) • WSU Trustees (+1 week)

New Majors and Emphases • New majors or emphases have a more complicated process

New Majors and Emphases • New majors or emphases have a more complicated process before being fully approved. • This process has changed over the past year (SB 238) • New majors or emphases need to be: • Approved President’s Council (+1 weeks) • Vetted by other USHE Institutions (+4 weeks) • Approved by WSU Trustees (+1 week) • Reported by Board of Regents (immediately) • Approved by NWCCU (+3 months)

New Majors and Emphases • For new majors and emphases to be fully approved to recruit students in the fall of a given year it must: • Pass Faculty Senate (no later than January of that year) • Approved by President’s Council (end of January) • Vetted by other USHE Institutions (mid February) • Approved by WSU Trustees (early March) • Enter program in new catalog (March) with notice of a fall start. • Reported to Board of Regents (early March) • Approved by NWCCU (by July) • Remove catalog notice.

New Majors and Emphases • Some issues to consider when proposing new majors and emphases • New program courses being proposed should be approved in time for the new catalog in March • New program courses charging fees should be identified in the curriculog proposal for the new program. • New program courses not listed will have to wait three years before being able to apply for course fees. • New majors or emphases that have out-of-mission degrees (doctorates) have to be approved by the Board of Regents.
