Overall conclusions • IBD is a chronic, progressive inflammatory disease. • Impact of IBD on patients is highly burdensome: it affects the physical, social, and psychosocial wellbeing of patients. • Goals of therapy include: – Inducing and maintaining remission of symptoms and mucosal healing – Reducing the risk of complications – Avoiding the need for surgery – Improved survival • Biologics provide a promising treatment choice for IBD patients to achieve remission and mucosal healing. 43
