CULTURAL SPACE DEFINITION ■ Cultural space is defined as the communicative practices that construct meanings in, through, and about particular places. – Do we “control” or “make” our cultural space? Or does our space define us?
USE OF SPACE COMMUNICATES ■ How is power symbolized through the use of space in large cities? ■ Spatial segregation exists today and has existed historically in cities and rural areas around the world based on socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, political, and religious differences. – Does MSU Mankato have spatial segregation? Where? – Do neighborhoods or apartment buildings identify with spatial segregation in town? In your home town? What factors play into effect to cause spatial segregation?
GOING COMMERICAL ■ What have you participated in because it was popular (as compared to hip-hop culture)? – Nike clothing, popular concerts, etc. ■ What other popular culture is commercialized other than hip-hop culture? – Did anyone NOT watch the Superbowl?
