CULTURAL CUISINE By Gare Graham
INSPIRATION • My inspiration for this app comes from two things. The first is that I like to cook, and I think it is a fun time to just cook and learn from your mistakes to make that perfect meal. The second thing is that I like other cultures. I love how interesting they can be, but other cultures allow for a whole new world of flavors, textures, and cooking methods that are so different from our culture that I can’t help but look in to them. With these ideas, I thought of the different foods from other cultures that I have tried, and how they are not always the easiest to find, and when I do, they aren’t the most cost effective. That is what inspired me to create this app, so people, no matter where the are can try food from around the world. Pocky Japan General Tso Chicken -China
BACKGROUND • I created the idea for this app, and how it could be unique from other food related apps on the market. Then I thought of how many apps that give you recipes for food aren’t really cultural diverse unless you look up specifically that cultural dish. With that, I came up with the idea of a worldwide cuisine app that can allow for the search of any known cultural dish from any known place in the world. Then using different functions that are used in other recipe apps as a foundation, I added my ideas to that foundation. With that, I came up with the idea of searching for local restaurants and stores that allow you to try the dish, as many people don’t know what they can try by looking a little deeper at their favorite supermarket or restaurant. And with that, the idea for my app, Cultural Cuisine was born. Tonkatsu - Japan Churrasco - Brazil Potato Okroshka - Russia
BACKGROUND(CONTINUED) • This app is created to allow you to look in to the cuisine of cultures around the world by selecting parts of the world, food types(snacks, desserts, entrees, or things like dairy, meat, grain, etc. ) and calorie intake to find foods that might peek your interest. When you find a food that you would like to try or learn about, you can click on the item to view information like the ingredients, calories per serving, and how to make them if possible. Along with hat, there will be an option to find a store or restaurant near you that serves or sells the food item and how much it will cost, giving you options in a price range that you choose. The app will be free to download, and every week the app will find local recommendations of food items that are related to your recent searches, or new to the markets of your local restaurants. This app can also benefit people by letting them find new foods with lower prices that can help them save money while having a potentially more healthy meal. Who This App Benefits • This app can benefit anyone looking to try something creative and new. This app is for all ages and gender, and would affect each person in the same way. People who are looking to save some money can also be benefitted by this app while being able to enjoy a good meal and not stress about how much money they are spending.
