2. • There are over 200 different ethnic groups which have a variety of languages and traditions. • Diverse in languages, traditions, and religions: • Main religion is Christianity. • The three branches of Christianity are Roman Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox.

3. Switzerland has multiple languages and ethnic groups, but has enjoyed much peace and lack of conflict. official languages in Switzerland German Italian and… French Romansch! But only spoken by less than 1% of the people!

4. The Francophone world consists of French speaking countries and regions of the world.

6. Ancient Greece considered the “birthplace of democracy”

7. Europe is one of the world’s most densely populated regions and highly urbanized. Because of this, Europe suffers from various forms of pollution, including acid rain pollution.

8. Europe has had recent conflicts, wars, and revolutions. These conflicts have been a result of religious differences and/or ethnic differences. a. Northern Ireland – conflict between the Roman Catholics and Protestants b. Yugoslavia – conflict between the Serbs, Croats, Bosnians, and Albanians on the Balkan Peninsula.

Maps Change Over Time. What changed in this example? Yugoslavia is now known as the independent countries of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, and the newest one – KOSOVO!
