Background Information ● Cubic architecture was founded in France. ● Cubic architecture was used a lot during the late 1990 s and into the early 21 st century, but is still used a lot today. ● It is commonly used throughout America, Europe, and East Asian countries, such as Japan and Korea. ● Most cubic style designs contain two stories, however, there may be exceptions. ● Cubic architecture is exactly what it sounds like, buildings built using cubes and various geometric shapes.

Materials Used ● As cubic architecture is a modern style/form of architecture, many modern materials are used. ● Common materials used include wood, brick, and steel. ● However, some buildings and designs also include cement or even glass cubes. ● Cubic styles don’t need as much material as other buildings due to its size.

Elements in Cubic Architecture ● ● ● ● Many elements are used in cubic architecture. The following elements can be found in cubic architecture designs: Color - warm colors, cool colors, etc. Texture - smooth texture, rough texture, etc. Vertical/horizontal lines - used to make rectangular and cubical shapes Shape - geometric shapes are used Size - cubic architecture structures are usually big Value - light and dark colors

Principles in Cubic Architecture ● Many principles can be found in cubic architecture as well. ● The following principles can be found in cubic architecture designs: ● Repetition - the shapes are commonly repeated throughout the design, as well as color ● Harmony - the shapes and colors used often create a sense of harmony ● Dominance - many times there is one cube that stands out ● Unity - the cubes create a sense of unity as well ● Balance - sometimes there is a same amount of shapes on both sides

Examples of Cubic Architecture

● Color and repetition create sense of unity and harmony. ● Value is used with the white color. ● Shape is used as well.

● Material used is wood. ● Horizontal and vertical lines are clearly present. ● Shape is obvious as well.

● Color is important here, as a unique burgundy color is being used. ● A smooth texture is present. ● Cubes and rectangles are used.
