Why What When, Where & Who • Eric Edquist, Regional Network Director Empowering the lives of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities
Why • • • Illinois Dept. of Human Services and the Department of Labor are changing regulations and we have to adapt. We want to increase the amount of options we offer people within DHS’ regulations. Smaller programs provide better person centered supports and oversight. We have outgrown some of our buildings/programs and they are no longer conducive for the supports we want to provide. We want to be great and offer the best supports in Illinois. Empowering the lives of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities
What • We have purchased St. Xavier University’s building in Orland Park. • • This program will focus on arts and education designed specifically for adults with intellectual disabilities. 115 people from Tinley Park and 5 people from Homewood have been identified to transfer to Orland Park. Shifting our production floor to a higher skill set and using it as a pathway to community employment. Selling our Homewood building. • • People supported in Homewood will temporarily move to Tinley Park. A new building will be built on our Orland Park land for people supported in Homewood and approximately 15 people currently supported in Tinley Park. Empowering the lives of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities
What • Our ADAPT program has moved to our Tinley Park building. • • • Will start the process of ADAPT working with community employment services to integrate that program into the production floor and eventually community jobs. ADAPT and Production will eventually move to their own building and will be separate programs, but work together. No changes to The Painted Turtle, Advocacy & Life. Styles Academy.
