CSS 496 Business Process Reengineering for BS(CS) Chapter 7: Process Mining M. Salman Khan msk@ciitlahore. edu. pk Department of Computer Science 1
Process Mining n n 1. 2. Process mining involves extraction of knowledge from event logs of transactional processing systems like ERP, CRM, SCM… Objective: To help in suggesting alternative ways of working (process redesign) Can be used to compare between expected process model and the actual process model. The purpose is to discover discrepancies to improve the process according to expectations Department of Computer Science 2
Perspectives of mining Process perspective (How) For example in terms of petri-nets, EPC to provide a good characterization of process flow n Organizational perspective (Who) Identifying people involved in process and how they interact with process and each other n Case perspective (What) For characterizing cases and case types (their path, values and their originators) n Department of Computer Science 3
Example of log file Department of Computer Science 4
Example of log file (cont. ) n n Note that every case starts with activity A and ends with activity D. Although splits and joins are not explicitly given but it is assumed that when any two activities occur in any order it means ANDsplit (concurrent activities) Department of Computer Science 5
The perspective generated from log file Department of Computer Science 6
