The Prompt Select a user interface for a car. Redesign the user interface so it is verbal only and has no graphics to distract the user’s vision. Explain why you would recommend (or not recommend) the user interface to the car’s manufacturer.

Limitations of Car VUI • Rear-View Camera would be difficult to implement because the manufacturer would need many sensors to detect car movement nearby. This would work in a parking lot or a quiet suburban street, but if you’re backing up onto a fast, well-travelled road, this might not a be a good idea. • Getting directions can work as a VUI, but the expectation of a GUI is prevalent, so it would be difficult to create a voice-only navigation system.

Voice Recognition • Should anyone other than the driver be able to communicate with the VUI? • What if there are six people in the car? • What if the driver is the quietest voice in the car? • Should you be able to override something the driver requested, i. e. driving directions, in order to go to the music or settings screen?

In Conclusion • For a car, it would be useful to pair a VUI

In Conclusion • For a car, it would be useful to pair a VUI with a GUI for a car and offer the use the opportunity to choose which option he/she would prefer. • A Voice UI would not be able to perform everything a GUI can. For example, implementing a voice-only rear-view camera would be very difficult.
