Cold Mass Empty Shell Longitudinal Welding Results • • • 2 New samples run again in August-2018 using 316 L base material & 317 L Filler Rod (Rev) New filler rod was easier to work with (more forgiving / less fine adjustments) Parameters changed (slower speeds) & Shielding gas changed from 98/2 – Ar/CO 2 to 100 -98/2 He-Ar/CO 2 3 passes – 1 root & 2 cover (~9”/min to ~11”/min) Shrinkage – negligible change from previous samples with 308 LSi filler rod A.
