Two Lines of Communication God to the Christian • The Method: • Speaks to us through His Son – Hebrews 1: 1 -2 (2: 3 -4 – through apostles) • Revealed and written via inspiration, then read by us – 2 Peter 1: 19 -21; 3: 1 -2, 15 -16; 1 Thessalonians 2: 13; Ephesians 3: 3 -4; 2 Timothy 2: 15 • To neglect the reading and study of scripture is to silence God’s communication with us – 1 Thessalonians 5: 19 -20
Two Lines of Communication God to the Christian • The Blessedness: • Some under-appreciate the method of God’s communication to us. They seek something more intimate than the reading and study of God’s word. They fail to grasp the power and intimacy of scripture. • 2 Timothy 3: 16 – inspiration – theopneustos – God-breathed.
Two Lines of Communication The Christian to God • The Method: • Worship – Lord’s Supper; Giving; Preaching; Singing; Prayer • Prayer: • Not a “take it or leave it” matter – 1 Thessalonians 5: 17 • Constant necessity along with the panoply of God – Ephesians 6: 18 • An exercise of faith – James 1: 6; 5: 15 • An avenue for praise and adoration – 1 Samuel 2: 1 -2
Two Lines of Communication The Christian to God • The Blessedness: • Our prayers ascend to God’s throne, and He hears them – Revelation 5: 8; 1 John 5: 14 -15 • They are effective – James 5: 16 -18 • They afford us a peace which surpasses understanding – Philippians 4: 6 -7
Communication Barriers Communication with God is crucial. We must make sure there are no barriers affecting such communication. • Sin – James 1: 21; Isaiah 59: 1 -2 • Carnality – 1 Corinthians 3: 1 -3 a; James 4: 4 • Time Mismanagement – Matthew 6: 33; Psalm 63: 1; John 9: 4; Ephesians 5: 16
