WHY ARE WE HERE? • From October 1, 1999 through October, 31, 2000, the following crimes were reported in the area from 12 th Street to 20 th Street, Van Buren to Buchanan; – – Sexual Assaults 8 Robberies 36 Thefts 82 Drug Crimes 192 Agg. Assaults 61 Burglaries 106 Auto Thefts 76 • Additionally, Central City Police Officers were advised that gang members had made death threats against Housing Officers.

RESIDENTS’ CONCERN • Central City Precinct received hundreds of calls and neighborhood concern involving complaints of drug activity, aggravated assaults, armed robberies and sexual assault crimes. • During the period October 1, 1999 through October 31, 2000, the 525 Beat area experienced 105 violent crimes.
