Critical Reflection Questions { Music Video. BY : Sarah Janvier

1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues ? For our music video we chose a 50 s-60 s pop song. The video is similar to those in that genre because we include the stereotype that surrounds what the 50 s era looked like. Our video includes greasers and a ‘’ good girl ‘’ for our social group to show greasers and the ‘’ good guys ‘’ , or Socs to some , would not get along. Another social group would be the fact that the video is about 3 colored girls who go from disliking each other to becoming friends once they took the time to get to know each other.

2. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? Our video catches the audiences attention because it starts off with just a girl , alone who suddenly gets scared and tries to run away once the ’’bad girls’’ are introduced. This makes the audience wonder why she’s so scared and what’s going to happen next. To get people to watch our music video , we would use media such as Instagram and Youtube to promote it , by uploading pictures to tease it ( like us sipping milkshakes in a 50 s diner ) would make people want to know what’s it about and be interested.

3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project? Since starting our project I feel I’ve grown as a film maker because while filming I could suddenly see things differently , as cliché as that sounds , I began to think of better ways to capture a scene instead of something generic I would have thought of before knowing as much as I do now. I learned that I really like coming up with different ways to capture the audiences eye. I dislike the fact that the ideas we come up don’t always work out , by that I mean a place not letting us film there which completely ruins our whole idea and sets us back

4. How did you integrate technologies— software, hardware and online—in this project? To make our video we used i. Movie , the Canon cameras , our phones , the desktop, and wordpress. For the intro we filmed with the Canon and edited it with the Mac desktop. For other scenes we used our phones and edited on i. Movie. Using i. Movie was the best option because it gives us so much to choose from. For wordpress , we blogged and talked about the process of our video and the difficulties we faced and we researched what our era ( 50 s-60 s ) looked like , dressed like , where they hung out and etc. to get a feel on what to do for our video.
