Overt Curriculum • The stated goals and objectives of the curriculum. The explicit messages that are taught. • Example: Columbus was a strong, brave "explorer" who paved the way for Europeans to civilize and educate the Native populations of the Americas.
Hidden Curriculum • The unintended lessons or outcomes that are conveyed through the curriculum. The implicit messages that are conveyed. • Example: Europeans are more advanced and sophisticated than the indigenous peoples of the Americas.
Null Curriculum • The ideas, texts, artworks, values/beliefs that are not taught but exist in our world. • Example: Columbus violently exploited and dominated indigenous people in the Americas which led to genocide and eventually the colonization and slavery of non-Europeans.
Describe what you see on the walls of your art classroom in terms of overt, hidden, and null curriculum?
