A Note Regarding Cancer is a general term used. • • There are over 100 named cancers (usually based on their locations in the body). When a diagnosis of cancer is made it is specifically named in medical charts. If another cancer is diagnosed and it is not the same named cancer that is a new diagnosis. When a previous cancer spreads (“metastasized”) to a new location, it is diagnosed as a metastasized cancer, (usually of the same name) and would not be considered a new diagnosis. 26
