Criterion B and Criterion C Lab Reports G
Criterion B and Criterion C Lab Reports G 10 MYP 2018 Matthew Ignash BCIS
Learning Objectives: • Students will be able to write a lab report following the MYP Criterion B and C directions.
Bell Ringer: 8/27/2018 • There will be no bell ringer this morning. Today you are to work on researching your question for your experiment on Friday. I have included a few slides to help you prepare for this: • Citations, citations • Summary of Thursday Jigsaw reading • Criterion B and Criterion C reminders
Citations, citations • In order to earn credit for this assessment of Criterion B and Criterion C, you will need to provide citations when appropriate in your lab. As a reminder: 1. If it is general knowledge you do not need to provide a citation. 2. If you read it from a source, you do need to provide the citation. 3. Use MLA format when citing sources. 1. https: //owl. purdue. edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style_i ntroduction. html 4. Look beyond Wikipedia – make use of the Library resources!
Hypothesis • If independent variable changes, then the dependent variable will…. This is because…(scientific knowledge and reasoning)
Variables • Independent variable (X): It is the variable that you are going to change • Dependent variable (Y): It is the variable that you are going to measure • Controlled variables (CV): the ones should remain constant during the experiment • Aim (Research question): -How does X affect Y given that CV is constant? -What is the relationship between X and Y for constant CV?
How to manipulate the variables • Independent variable: How to change IV • Dependent variable: How to measure DV • Controlled variables: How to keep them constant Controlled variables Reason to control Method to control
Method to collect data What range does your independent variable cover? How many data do you need to collect within this range? How many times do you repeat the measurement for each set of data? Which actual values of independent variable are used? ie sufficient breadth of data ie sufficient quantity of data, at least 7 sets of data and at least 5 repetitions ie relevant data
