WP 16 and Federated Identification q There are Identity activities outside CRISP ü First

WP 16 and Federated Identification q There are Identity activities outside CRISP ü First Umbrella prototype work within Euro. FEL ü Umbrella activities within Pa. Ndata ü FIM workshops organized by CERN q How to position WP 16 within this scenario ü Base further WP 16 work on previous results § Disadvantage: slight modifications of Do. W, need for adaptions § Advantage: exploit existing results ü Ignore everything and start again from scratch § Advantages: Freedom to include latest developments § Disadvantages: what to do with initial work – If agreement: why repetition of work? – If disagreement: double developments? CRISP WP 16 F 2 F, RAL, Sep 27, 2012 Heinz J Weyer, PSI 3

WP 16 and Other FP 7 Projects q CRISP / WP 16 and Pa.

WP 16 and Other FP 7 Projects q CRISP / WP 16 and Pa. Ndata / WP 3 v Both WPs § Very similar § need self standing identity v Proposal: horizontal separation, shifting centers of gravity v CRISP/WP 16: § further development o Umbrella. Plus, bridging, X. 509 … o GSI and PSI; road map till summer v Pa. Ndata/WP 3 § Focus on implementation issues v Harmonization meetings q CALIPSO, NMI 3, Biostruct X v Further discussions needed CRISP WP 16 F 2 F, RAL, Sep 27, 2012 Heinz J Weyer, PSI 4

WP 16 Do. W q WP 16 Do. W and Umbrella ü Base on

WP 16 Do. W q WP 16 Do. W and Umbrella ü Base on previous activities (Euro. FEL) vs. start from scratch? § New worldwide solution or Photon facilities as kernel? ü CRISP Proposal, Part B, 4 a § The development of a common user identity system, Authorisation and Authentication Infrastructure (AAI), permitting access to data and IT resources of the following RIs: ESRFUP, ESS, Euro. FEL, FAIR, ILL 20/20, and XFEL will follow a modular design to allow its incorporation with minimal effort into existing and future IT systems. Because of its federated structure, this solution will be cost and resource effective and will allow for the first time a single user identification system between the participating RIs. A prototype of a unique user identification system is developed in Euro. FEL by PSI. CRISP WP 16 F 2 F, RAL, Sep 27, 2012 Heinz J Weyer, PSI 6

WP 16 Do. W, previous q Objective § Develop and deploy a pan-European system

WP 16 Do. W, previous q Objective § Develop and deploy a pan-European system for unique identification (Authentication and Authorization) for PSI (Euro. FEL), ESRF, ESS, GSI, ILL, XFEL q Task 1 § Review (policy and technology) and documentation of existing AAI approaches and future requests of the participating partners. q Task 2 § Workshop with project and facility authentication and authorization experts, where this architecture is discussed. q Task 3 § Production of a prototype solution for an AAI system permitting local and remote access to data and IT resources. q Task 4 § Workshop with project and facility experts, where the solution is presented and discussed § Deployment of the defined solution at the partner facilities (all participate) CRISP WP 16 F 2 F, RAL, Sep 27, 2012 Heinz J Weyer, PSI 7

WP 16 Do. W, revised q Objective ü Develop and deploy a pan-European system

WP 16 Do. W, revised q Objective ü Develop and deploy a pan-European system for unique identification (Authentication and Authorization) for PSI (Euro. FEL), ESRF, ESS, GSI, ILL, XFEL q Task 1 ü Several workshops with project and facility authentication and authorisation experts where the present status of the Umbrella project is reviewed and discussed. Discussions and decisions on the subdivision between the CRISP and Pa. Ndata authentication work packages. Development of the architecture document (all participate). q Task 2 ü Definition of the future roadmap and software development plan based upon the existing status of Umbrella CRISP / Pa. Ndata harmonization and the expectations of the community. q Task 3 ü Workshop with project and facility authentication and authorisation experts, where this proposal is discussed. Experts from academia and relevant commercial companies are invited. Presentation and decision on the future software development roadmap. q Task 4 ü Start of prototype implementation (all participate). CRISP WP 16 F 2 F, RAL, Sep 27, 2012 Heinz J Weyer, PSI 8
