CREMATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUNERAL DIRECTORS
RESPONSIBILITY The Funeral Director • shall observe Regulations of Crematorium • Is responsible for supplying sufficient bearers to convey coffin in dignified manner to catafalque • Has no more responsibility for coffin once placed anywhere in Crematorium premises
CONSTRUCTION OF COFFIN The coffin – • Must be made of wood or wood by-product • When placed in cremator, should be easily combustible, not give off smoke, toxic gas or leave any retardant smears after combustion • Must not be fitted with metal furniture • Must not contain any PVC and polystyrene must only be used for name plate, and no more than 90 grams.
LINING OF COFFIN For lining – • Sawdust and cotton wool should be avoided • Suitable sealing material may be used, but NOT rubber, PVC or pitch.
SIZE OF COFFIN Crematorium must be informed – • If coffin size exceeds 81” length, 28” width and 22” height,
NOTICE OF CREMATION The Funeral Director must observe – • Cremation Authority’s length of notice required • Strict attendance for time of funeral
CREMATION OF INFANTS If cremation of infant – • Parents should be warned there may be no tangible remains, due to cartilaginous nature of bone structure
CREMATED REMAINS Cremated remains – • Should be handled with utmost care • Any casket provided should be 200 cubic inches capacity, minimum, and be securely labelled
