FAITH Faith is a persons response to God Confessed in the Creed Celebrated in the Liturgy Lived in obedience and prayer
BUT, WHAT IS FAITH… the search for God meeting God through revelation the response is faith
THE SEARCH FOR GOD • CCC 27 The desire for God is written in the human heart, because humanity is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw humanity to Gods self. • CCC 30 Although humanity can forget God, or reject God, God never ceases to call every person to seek, so as to find life and happiness.
MEETING GOD THROUGH REVELATION • CCC 50 Through an utterly free decision, God has revealed and given Gods self to humanity. This God does by revealing the mystery, God’s plan of loving goodness, formed from all eternity in Christ, for the benefit of all people. THE RESPONSE OF FAITH • CCC 143 By faith, a person completely submits their intellect and will to God. With their whole being they give their assent to God the revealer. Sacred Scripture calls this human response to God ‘the obedience of faith’. • CCC 180 Believing is a human act, conscious and free, corresponding to the dignity of the human person.
A COMMON LANGUAGE • CCC 185 Communion in faith needs a common language of faith, normative for all and uniting all in the same confession of faith. • CCC 186 Early on, the Church wanted to gather the essential elements of its faith into organic and articulated summaries, intended especially for candidates of Baptism. • CCC 187 Such syntheses are called ‘professions of faith’. They are called creeds on account of what is usually their first word in Latin: credo – I believe.
