Creative Writing Prompts and You!

Why are we doing this? • Many of you have said you really do

Why are we doing this? • Many of you have said you really do not feel comfortable or competent with creative writing. • Today we will be doing a few drills for creative writing by learning to write in response to prompts! • This will help develop your own creative writing style.

Here’s how its going to work: • You will have 10 minutes total to

Here’s how its going to work: • You will have 10 minutes total to respond to each prompt. • You should try to keep writing the whole 10 minutes. • If you get stuck on a prompt, try to come up with something else to write about that interests you. • Your responses should not be one or two sentences!

First Prompt (10 minutes) Opening up your lunch box, you expect to find your

First Prompt (10 minutes) Opening up your lunch box, you expect to find your normal mixture of baby carrots, a slightly -mushed sandwich and a clementine. But today’s different. Instead of the food you swore you had packed that morning, there’s a mysterious note signed by—yourself? What does it say, and why can’t you remember writing it? Perhaps most important, what will you eat for lunch?

Second Prompt (10 Minutes) • The office building seemed normal enough. You shrug off the feeling of dread as you enter the doors. There’s no receptionist. Simply two doors. One is green, the other orange. Which do you take? Why are you there? What happens next?

Third Prompt (10 minutes) • Write a poem based on a dream you had.

Try to recreate the feeling of the place. OR • Write a poem about something that happened to someone you know. Write about it as if it had happened to you
