Recap -What is a monologue? A monologue is a speech delivered by one person, who exposes inner thoughts and provides insights into his or her character. The character/person speaks out their thoughts about a specific event or situation and tells us how they are feeling at that particular time. Monologues are always written in first person (I think/I feel). The Greek root word monologos translates to “speaking alone, ” and that's a monologue: one person doing all the talking.

Syndrome’s Monologue WHO is he speaking to? WHAT is it that he wants? What is he FEELING at this point? See? Now you respect me, because I’m a threat. That’s the way it works. Turns out, there a lot of people, whole countries, who want respect, and they will pay through the nose to get it. How do you think I got rich? I invented weapons, and now I have a weapon that only I can defeat, and when I unleash it, I’ll get… You sly dog! You got me monologuing! I can’t believe it. It’s cool, huh? Zero-point energy. I save the best inventions for myself. Am I good enough now? Who’s super now? I’m Syndrome, your nemesis and…Oh, brilliant.

Using your planning sheet from yesterday you will be writing a monologue from Ted’s perspective • Below is the start of a monologue I’ve drafted which you can use as a model for your own writing – magpie but don’t copy. My jaw dropped as Kat waltzed out the door with no regard for my feelings. How can she be so pig-headed and selfish? Without me, she’d be no closer to finding Salim! Doesn’t she realise I’m the brains of the operation! Considering I’m the one that struggles to pick up how people are feeling, she shows a distinct lack of empathy for me… What did I do to be treated with such distain and contempt? In all honesty, it’s my mistake for thinking that Kat was finally showing me the respect I deserve but as per usual, anything to do with her turns into a Katastrophe and hurricane Katrina leaves a path of destruction and hurt feelings in her path. To think she had the audacity to tell me I wouldn’t be any use… I’m incandescent with rage and my veins are filled with molten lava. I hope my obstinate sister soon realises she’s made a massive mistake!
