CREATIVE CRITICAL REFLECTION Jordanna Moran, AICE Media Studies
1. How does your project use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? - This magazine is different from normal magazines in that it is meant to be more accessible to women, and more relatable. This magazine is meant to reach out to women who typically don’t like how other magazines make them feel – to give them easy tips and tricks to fit their lifestyle, rather than change it.
2. How does your project engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? ◦ - My project engages with audiences by drawing them in with a format that is supposed to be easy to read, yet still interesting. I went for a design that was simple and mostly clean. ◦ - I also used an interview with a licensed medical professional to add credibility to my feature story and give a more credible impression, because when reading about health it’s important to let readers know that the information they’re reading is accurate and approved by a healthcare professional.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project? ◦ - I became much more familiar with the In. Design program as a whole as well as the features of the program. ◦ - I became much more adept at tweaking small details and noticing things such as color complements and text alignment, as well as text and font size and type. ◦ - I learned about how much time and effort it takes to design a cohesive spread, and why it is important to learn about the ins and outs of production when working on a project like this.
4. How did you integrate technologies - software, hardware and online – in this project? ◦ - The technology that I used in this project included a lot of online research and fact- checking to ensure that my information was correct, as well as the camera used to take the photos I used on my cover, in my table of contents, and in my spread. ◦ - The camera I used was a Canon SX 500 IS.
