Creative Critical Reflection Analysis How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups? On my cover page… • • On my cover page i had the usual conventions like a cover image that was photo shopped by myself , i have 5 cover lines and a barcode with a header on the page aswell. However, I didn't use a tag line underneath my title because i didn't think my magazine need one. On my contents page… • On my contents page i used certain conventions such a bold header at the top of the page , i use the normal amount of images you would expect on a contents page as well as the page numbers and subtitles expected on a contents page. On my Double page spread… • On my double page spread I have used the certain conventions such as a bold header , a selection of relevant images that reflect the movie that i have made up, I have also included the page numbers at the bottom of the page just like a professional magazine would do , i have my own border at the side of the page as well which helps to resemble the normal conventions in a magazine. As Well as this i have also used the normal magazine conventions for my paragraphs, I have made my paragraphs appear in columns and in small font just like in professional magazines •
How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? • • 1. My product has a bold title that is relevant to the movie industry, captivating cover lines such as the “enter for a chance to got to the Oscars with a friend” and ‘actor’ on the front page. 2. As Well as this i have also made my double page based on the movie industry , such as featuring my own movie called" 'frenemies” as the article subject, this helps to relate to the audience and attracts the readers because new movies are very popular in movie magazine such as in “Empire” 3. If my product was a real media text then i would distribute this via newsagents ; supermarkets and online as well because of modernisation and the increased use of mobile phone/kindles etc. for the younger generation. 4. I would say that the readers are attracted to my magazine because of my bold header as well as the main cover lines, so if the product was real and the actors on my page were real then fans of that person would automatically be attracted to the magazine and intrigued into buying it , pictures at “the Oscars” automatically attract people and engage with the audience because the Oscars is a globally watched-annual event that everyone enjoys.
How did your production skills develop during this project? • During this experience I learnt how to edit pictures and make the magazines look as professional as they can , I used In. Design and Photoshop , I had to use the blur tool for the background, the drop shadow effect as well as using the layer inverse tool to delete the background from the main image. From looking at professional magazines I learned what colours schemes worked with what , so from my production I learned how to edit the pictures and which colours to use on my magazine. I also had to be quite formal and learn which language to use in the magazine in which to appeal to the audience and come across as professional. Throughout my experience of the production I managed to improve my skills as I didn't know what In. Design was and didn't really know how to use Photoshop, but no, my production skills have increased significantly as I managed to edit the picture of Sam Boyd on Photoshop yet, I made the actual cover page on In. Design , I also made my contents page and Double page spread on In. Design , now that I understand how to use it.
How did you integrate technologies (hardware , software and online)in this project? • • • For my coursework I had the job of using Apple Mac computers, on these I had to work on certain software's such as In. Design, Power. Point and Photoshop. I also used these computers for my research and used the internet to make my research collages etc. , sometimes i had to plug my phone into the computer and transfer images between my phone and computer because of creating my magazine. When editing my pictures I had to use Photoshop to inverse the background and completely remove the backdrop. I then had to create a drop shadow on the image featured on my cover page , I also made it slightly brighter using Photoshop, but then I made my actual product of the magazine on In. Design, I found it quite stressful when trying to move the images as I had never used it before so the whole process was unusual to me. I used Google docs as well as this to create my collages of the research images , I made my contents, cover and double page research using google docs as i think it quite easy to make collages and move images on this software. I also made my final Critical analysis on Google docs but transferred it between that and Power. Point. I used safari on the Apple computers to research the images, i also sometimes researched example double page spreads to show me what mine should represent and to give me some inspiration. Finally, i had to use voice memos to record myself talking to create this video and make my final evaluation.
