ACTIVITY 11: STRUCTURE AND IMPORTANCE OF CREATIVE ARTS OUTCOMES: • List and describe the topics under each discipline. • Describe the Specific Aims of the Creative Arts and suggest how they can be aligned to the four art forms • Identify the time allocation per week and per annum for each art form • Identify the minimum facilities and resources required for the subjects Creative Arts 3
ACTIVITY 11 Group and Pair work: • Read Section 2 of the CAPS pages 8 – 9 • 15 minutes individual reading time • Discuss the following questions and prepare a presentation: o Define Creative Arts in accordance with the CAPS. 4
ACTIVITY 11: SPECIFIC AIMS There are Specific Aims for the Creative Arts subject. (See CAPS, p 8 -9) Use the template in the participant’s manual on page 6 to list the Specific Aims and the corresponding key words. 5
ACTIVITY 11: SPECIFIC AIMS • Select a card that lists an art form from a container ( box, bowl, hat, shoe, etc. ) • Group A: In groups, demonstrate your understanding of the aim of art forms by means of: • Drama • • • Dance Music and/or Visual Arts 6
ACTIVITY 11: SPECIFIC AIMS Group B: CAPS CREATIVE ARTS: SCHOOLS HAVE TO CHOOSE TWO ART FORMS IN GRADES 7 TO 9. 9 • You are members of a marketing company. • Sell available options of art forms that learners can take in Senior Phase. • Market each art form by means of the following: radio advertisement, television commercial, jingle, poster, pamphlet, dance sequences, skit etc. 7
ACTIVITY 11: TIME ALLOCATION In Grades 7, 8 and 9, Creative Arts is allocated two hours per week. Each of the two art forms is allocate one hour per week. This allows for depth of study and to prepare learners for arts subject choices from Grade 10 to Grade 12. Learners study only TWO art forms. 8
ACTIVITY 11: SELECTION OF ART FORMS Determined by each school, based on the following criteria: • Availability of the minimum facilities and resources required for the subject • Availability of specialist arts teachers on the staff or accessible to the school (e. g. itinerant teachers, parents, community artists) • Learner abilities/talents and preferences 9
ACTIVITY 11: SELECTION OF ART FORMS In selecting which art forms to offer, schools should be cognisant of the DEMANDS OF THE ART FORM in allocating or selecting learners 10
ACTIVITY 11: SELECTION OF ART FORMS Minimum requirements per art forms: Facilities & Resources Dance: Dance studio/hall /double classroom (open space preferably with a sprung wood floor); Music system with CD player/i. Pod Drama: Large classroom or hall, Music system Music: Normal classroom and space for practice, Music system, musical instruments Visual Arts: Art room or appropriate space, Arts equipment, consumables 11
