CREATION TO CHRIST GOD’S UNFOLDING PLAN OF REDEMPTION

And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. 14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. 15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. Luke 24: 13 -15

But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. 17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? Luke 24: 16 -17

POINT #1 Communion without Christ leads to more questions, not answers.

REASONING TOGETHER The Greek word for “Reasoned” is also translated as “Questioning” or “Disputing”. This was a 2. 5 hour walk from Jerusalem to Emmaus. They couldn’t come to an answer because there was no authority present.

KEY POINT #1 When God’s authority is not present, answers to life will be hard to find.

THEY WERE HOLDEN Their eyes were spiritually captive. Captive to the ruling of their unbelief.

And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? Luke 24: 17

JESUS ASKS OF THEIR CONDITION Here are two excellent questions. What are you guys talking about? Why are you sad? Your conversation will prove whether or not the Word of God is the authority. And your emotions reveal your heart toward the Word.

KEY POINT #2 The way you speak is directly correlated with what you believe. What you believe will have a direct impact on how you feel.

And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? 19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: Luke 24: 18 -19

And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. 21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. Luke 24: 20 -21

I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. Deuteronomy 18: 18

And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: 21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. 22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. Acts 3: 20 -22

And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. 24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. Acts 3: 23 -24

And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out. Luke 4: 36

THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT CHRIST… They said, He was a prophet. He was mighty in deed and word. The chief priests and rulers killed him. And we trusted that he would redeem Israel.

Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; 23 And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive. 24 And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not. Luke 24: 22 -24

HERE’S THE CRUX OF THE MATTER We just don’t know what to believe.

Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? 27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. Luke 24: 25 -27

POINT #2 Their lack of faith brings a sharp rebuke. But it also brings answers.

JESUS CALLS THEM FOOLS A fool is anyone who simply doesn’t believe in God or live according to what his Word says.

[To the chief Musician, [A Psalm of David. ]] The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. Psalm 14: 1

KEY POINT #3 God doesn’t rebuke his children for not knowing. He rebukes his children for not believing and walking in what he said.

And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. 29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. 30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. Luke 24: 28 -31

Christ is waiting to be invited into your life.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Revelation 3: 20

Christ is waiting to be invited into your life. Upon being invited in, he tarries with them. Could it be that our dead walk is mainly the result of us not inviting Christ in?

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Timothy 3: 5

And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? 33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, 34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. 35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread. Luke 24: 32 -35

NOW THEY HAVE TO TELL OTHERS That 2. 5 hour walk to Emmaus doesn’t really matter now. It doesn’t matter that it’s late in the day either. They could finally see clearly what had happened all along.
