A. Days of Creation Day One: Genesis 1: 1 – 5 Heavens, Earth, Darkness, Water, Light n In the beginning re'shiyth God created time. The universe is made up of time, space, and matter – THREE in ONE n God 'elohiym Elohim is a plural noun with a singular meaning- God is one, and MORE than one! 1)

The Heavens n Created bara God created ex nihilo : out of nothing n Heavens shamayim Another plural word with a singular meaning! God created space. (length, width, height) The word Universe in English comes from two Latin words: uni, meaning single, and verse, meaning spoken sentence.

The Earth n Earth 'erets God created matter. (solid, liquid, gas) n formless tohuw without shape; not organized yet n void bohuw empty; not yet filled – it was organized later, adding energy and intelligence

Light n darkness choshek No light yet; darkness is the lack of light n The Spirit of God ruwach “Ruwach” means wind or breath; the Holy Spirit is beginning to organize the elements – activating everything; energizing the universe!

“Let there be LIGHT!” n The Father is the source of all things. n The Spirit is the energizer of all things. n The Word is the revealer of all thing! John 8: 12 - Jesus is the Light of the World!

What kind of Light? n The sun doesn’t appear until Day 4… n The Shekinah glory of God: the light that represents God throughout the Old Testament n Revelation 22: 5 - There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

Light dispels darkness n Genesis 1: 4 n The light was good: towb n God divided the light from the darkness: badal n John 1: 5 – The Light of the world dispels the darkness (sin or forces of evil) of this world. n 1 Peter 2: 9 – we are called out of darkness into light

Day and Night n Genesis 1: 5 – God imparts order n Day: yowm or yom n Night: layil The earth is rotating; it is no longer formless, but it is still void (empty of life) n Yom, used over 2000 times in the Old Testament, usually means a 24 -hour day

Evening and Morning n Evening: `ereb n Morning: boqer A normal day has an evening and a morning; a long period of time does not.

2) Day Two Genesis 1: 6 – 8 n God created the firmament: raqiya` n The atmosphere n It separated the waters from the waters: the water above from the water below

Three Heavens Atmospheric heaven: firmament (Jeremiah 4: 25) b. The second heaven: outer space (Isaiah 13: 10) c. The third heaven: where God dwells (2 Corinthians 12: 2); God’s throne (Hebrews 9: 24) a.

Canopy Theory (or Model) n n 1. 2. 3. There was a layer of water around the earth in the upper atmosphere before the Flood in Noah’s day. Evidences: The Greenhouse Effect: the earth’s climate was uniformly tropical The sign of the rainbow: it never rained before the Flood Ages of people before the Flood

Dinosaurs’ Lung Capacity n Dinosaurs’ lung capacities seem too small to be able to supply enough oxygen for them to survive n There is evidence that the earth’s atmosphere had a higher pressure and a higher concentration of oxygen before the Flood n Hyperbaric chambers

Water Canopy… more n The water canopy would have had to be transparent to allow sunlight to get to the plants and to allow the stars to be seen. n The water canopy came down to earth during the Flood (Genesis 7: 11). n The Ice Age: may have been caused by the earth’s climate having to readjust with so much water around and no canopy

3) Day Three: Dry Land n Genesis 1: 9 – 13 n God separated the light from darkness (1), waters above from waters below (2), and dry land from water on Day 3. n Atoms and molecules began to organize into minerals to make the solid earth. (Psalm 33: 7) n 2 Peter 3: 5 – “out of water and in water”

2 Peter 3: 5 n How can the earth be out of water and in water? a) Day One: the first thing to be energized or activated were the molecules of hydrogen and oxygen to form water. b) Day Two: the earth (planet) was a mixture of water, minerals, elements without order and organization in the molecular structure c) Day Three: when God gathered (organized) the lower waters to obtain the dry land, He also organized the molecular structure of the minerals obtaining minerals, rocks, soil, and the dry land becoming the crust of the Earth, locking up the lower waters inside of the planet

Soil n Sand n Silt n Clay Three in one!

Plants God organized the elements again into very complex systems: Plants n Each plant has DNA to allow them to reproduce n Three kinds of plants: a) Grass: ground covering plants b) Herbs: bushes and shrubs c) Trees: all large woody plants, bearing fruit n

Life: Zoe n n a) b) n n John 1: 4; John 4: 36 ; John 14: 6 Life: two Greek words a) zoe: 1) life the state of one who is possessed of vitality or is animate every living soul 2) life a) of the absolute fulness of life, both essential and ethical, which belongs to God, and through him both to the hypostatic "logos" and to Christ in whom the "logos" put on human nature b) life real and genuine, a life active and vigorous, devoted to God, blessed, in the portion even in this world of those who put their trust in Christ, but after the resurrection to be consummated by new accessions (among them a more perfect body), and to last for ever.

Life: Bios: 1) life a) life extensively 2) the period or course of life b) that by which life is sustained, resources, wealth, goods Zoe is usually used of men; bios of animals n Three kinds of life: n man, sentient life, non-sentient life

Genesis 1: 30 n The plants are not alive biblically; today with modern science we classify plants as a living organisms, but God did not put a breath of life into plants, so therefore when Adam ate the fruits and plants, they did not experience death because they did not have life.

“After their own kind…” n Kind: miyn A kind, according to the Bible, is a group of organisms that have the ability to interbreed and produce viable offspring - not the same as a species; much broader n DNA makes it possible for one kind of organism to mate and reproduce viable offspring only with another of its kind

4) Day Four: Sun, moon, and stars n God created the framework on the first three days; He filled it on the next three.

Lights in the firmament n Lights : ma'owr n Light-givers divide evening from morning a) Greater light: the sun n The sun’s diameter is equal to 109 earths n Two possible ways the sun produces energy: – Nuclear fusion – Gravitational collapse

The sun’s age n The sun loses an average of 5 million tons per second. If the sun were 4. 6 billion years old, it would have had to start so large that it would have sucked the earth in. n If the sun were only 6000 years old, it wouldn’t have been very much bigger at the beginning.

2) The Lesser Light: the moon n The moon is not a light-maker; it reflects the sun’s light, so it is a light-giver. n The moon is moving away from the earth; the moon would have had to be closer

Rule n The sun and moon rule over day and night, but not over man n Jeremiah 31: 35 – 36 The Lord’s promise to Israel is a permanent as the ordaining of the sun, moon, and stars.

5) Day Five: Fish and birds n God filled what He had created on Day Two – the firmament (atmosphere) and the seas (waters) n Bring forth abundantly: sharats To teem, swarm, multiply n Life: chay (living thing, animal) Not the same kind of life as plants

Birds and Fish n Fowl: `owph (can mean simply flying creatures) Whales: tanniyn (can mean dragons or sea n Living creatures that move: sherets n The Hebrew word “sherets” is actually translated as “creeping thing”; it refers to all kinds of marine animals as invertebrates, vertebrates and also reptiles. n monsters)

Trilobites had one of the most complex system eye in the world. How could trilobites be one of the earliest forms of life, from which many creatures evolved?

Living Creature n nephesh (soul, self, life, creature, person, appetite, mind, living being, desire, emotion, passion) n a) that which breathes, the breathing substance or being, soul, the inner being of man n b) living being

Animal life vs. Plant life n Animal life not only has to have the right organization of the basic elements, they also need instincts, intuitions, senses, vision, hearing, communication, and the way how to process all that information in the right way; God made the water and air animals and also He created the soul of them.

God blessed them n Blessed: barak The blessing includes both a command the provision for the continued multiplication of the animals, so that they will soon occupy all parts of the world. n The same commands were given to the animals emerging from the ark after the flood. n

6) Day Six n n n God created the dry land on Day Three; He filled it with land animals on Day Six Living creatures: chay nephesh Cattle: b@hemah Creeping things: remes Beasts: chay God made: `asah Land animals apparently are of a higher order than birds and fish.

Land Animals: n “Cattle” includes domestic animals n “Beasts of the earth” includes wild animals; includes the large mammals such as lions and elephants, and probably also the dinosaurs. n “Creeping things” includes crawling reptiles, but also the insects and smaller reptiles; probably most amphibians and many small mammals too.

Law of Biogenesis n Life can only come from similar, preexisting life. n One kind of organism can only reproduce the same kind. n One kind of organism can never (and HAS never) reproduced another kind.

Let Us make Man… n Man: 'adam n In our image: tselem n In our likeness: d@muwth Man is different from animals and plants because man is the only creature made in the image and likeness of God; man has a unique dignity.

Spirit n Plants have a living body only; no breath of life n Animals have a living body and a soul (nephesh) breathed into them n Man has a living body, a soul, and a spirit – three in one! n Because man has a spirit, he has intellect, will, and emotion – also three in one!

Adam to the Hebrew word for ground, dust, or earth: 'adamah n Man was created out of the dust of the earth: Genesis 2: 7 n Male: zakar n Female: n@qebah n Genesis 2 does not contradict Genesis 1: it focuses more specifically on the events that all happened on the sixth day. n Related

Subdue and have dominion n Man is given stewardship over the creation. n Be fruitful: parah n Multiply: rabah n Replenish: male' n Subdue: kabash n Have dominion: radah

Food n All organisms, humans and animals, were supposed to eat fruit for their food. n God provided us with “fruits, herbs, and seeds” to eat; God did not mention meat to eat, because living in a perfect world, there was no death. Man’s sin brought death into the world. Rom 5: 12

“… it was VERY GOOD. ” n Very n At good: m@`od towb the end of the sixth day of the creation, God pronounced that everything that He had done was very good; there was no struggle for existence, no pollution, no disease, no earthquakes, no disorder, no sin, and no death! Even that Lucifer (Satan) was still good at the time!

7) Day Seven: God Rests n Genesis 2: 1 – 4 n Why did God rest? He was finished! kalah The creation was complete. n First Law of Thermodynamics: Energy can neither be created or destroyed. n Law of the conservation of mass: Matter can neither be created or destroyed.

“All the host of them…” n. E = mc 2 Matter and Energy are interchangeable… n Hosts: tsaba' 1 Kings 29: 19 – hosts are angels Deuteronomy 4: 19 – hosts are stars n All the creations in the heavens witness the Creation!

Sabbath n God was establishing the pattern of Sabbath rest. n God established the seven-day week, not man. The week is NOT based on natural phenomena like the year, the month, or even the second (one average human heart beat), but on God’s decree!

Blessing n God blessed the entire Creation on the seventh day… – No major event of creation has happened since then. – The Sabbath is a blessing! God’s people did not have to work every day to supply their needs. It also demonstrated to the world that GOD ultimately supplied ALL the needs of His people! – Sabbath Year? God’s people could TRUST Him!
