What are the strengths of distance Learning? ______________________________________________________________________ Great student interaction, allows for an alternative learning experience. What are the weaknesses of Distance Learning? ___________________________________ Trying to conduct creative projects with lots of materials is very difficult. ______________________________________________________________________ Occasionally not being able to hear or a high pitch sound, but they were fixed after a ___________________________________ phone call. ______________________________________________________________________ If the person is not trained at the remote site in the equipment, student management ___________________________________ and problem solving this can be a negative experience. ______________________________________________________________________ It has been sad to see the decline of importance placed on DL at a certain remote ___________________________________ site, with a new aide and new school employee who was not even assigned to the ___________________________________ class for the full class time. ______________________________________________________________________ As a teacher, I cant look at everything they are doing on their papers, worksheets etc. ___________________________________ Hard for any one on one (private) time during class. Hard to help those who have ___________________________________ missed classes. No after school. Some games/activities cannot be done as a whole __________________________________ group. ______________________________________________________________________ Difficult to complete hands-on projects. Are there any outcomes from teaching this course that you had not expected? __________________________________ Teaching in the distance learning room was a great experience. The way the room and ___________________________________ interaction is set up is very similar to a college level classroom. ______________________________________________________________________ Students in others schools felt close to me and my subject - several told me they are ___________________________________ going to pursue my subject in college. I expected the "distance" to hinder the ___________________________________ relationships with students. ___________________________________ It is always a pleasure to work with kids at another site who would not normally get ___________________________________ the chance. ______________________________________________________________________ I___________________________________ wasn’t sure if I would enjoy this teaching style but I really liked it. ___________________________________ It always impresses me when the receiving sites have TA's or teachers in the room ___________________________________ that are so wonderful and efficient! ______________________________________________________________________ Teaching a DL course has made me a more effective teacher all-around. Did you use any new instructional methods to effectively teach in the DL classroom? ______________________________________________________________________ DL by itself is a new instructional method - preparing lessons and teaching through a ___________________________________ camera is unlike anything a teacher will ever experience. ___________________________________ I___________________________________ had students create Power. Points and send them to me. I could grade them via ___________________________________ internet and send notes electronically. I did this with some homework assignments, ___________________________________ some tests, and some quizzes as well. Also, I used the teacher aides to help me w/ ___________________________________ homework. ______________________________________________________________________ Something I don’t do often enough, but did this year was have students make movies. ___________________________________ It all about the visual. ______________________________________________________________________ Allowing students to email work to me was very efficient. ______________________________________________________________________ Use of the Elmo and Blackboard. ______________________________________________________________________ Less DVD videos used than in previous class, more online sites to verify information ___________________________________ (60 minutes/frontline videos shown). What were the advantages / disadvantages to visiting your remote school(s)? ______________________________________________________________________ It was interesting to see their perspective they said hosting makes it even clearer. ______________________________________________________________________ It was too distant. ______________________________________________________________________ Only to drop something off. I'd miss too many "regular" courses at home site to travel ___________________________________ and teach at other schools. I WANTED to do so though. I had a field trip on a ___________________________________ Saturday and many students from all classes spent the day with me so that was great. ______________________________________________________________________ I wish I could visit more often, I only got to each school once. ______________________________________________________________________ One of the remote schools has a very unusual configuration. Visiting allowed me to get ___________________________________ to know students there as they were hard to see on screen.
