How Artists Make Art Craft Content Art Context
Craft in Art • Craft: The tools, techniques and skills that an artist uses to create art.
Context in Art • Context: When a work of art was made, where, how and for what purpose.
Content in Art • Content: The emotional or intellectual message of the artwork.
Final Product • Choose a piece contemporary artwork • Write a 2 page report that explains the craft, content and context of the artwork in terms of: – How the art was made, and a description of the art (using the elements and principles of art) – Essential meaning of the art (why the art was made) – Significance of the art in terms of culture and art history – Aesthetic value of a work of art
Choosing Your Art • Your piece must be: – Contemporary (the artist must have been alive at some point during your life) – Well known (can be googled) – The artist must have spoken about his art (this will help you to answer why the art was made)
