Key Terms Discipline • Exhibiting proper conduct and self-control in the face of adversity through a commitment to training and organizational standards. • The process by which the Division of Police ensures that an employee’s conduct conforms to established standards. Positive Corrective Action • An effort by a supervisor to achieve voluntary behavioral modification through encouragement and persuasion.

“Just Cause” All discipline must be based upon “just cause” as provided in Article 10. 1 of the current collective bargaining agreement. The Seven Tests for Just Cause: 1. Notice 2. Rules of Conduct • Broad precepts of authority, responsibility, or conduct which carry the full force and effect of a direct order from either the Chief of Police or the Director of Public Safety and which remain effective until cancelled or superseded by a direct written order from either of the aforementioned. • The rules are the most authoritative directives issued and will be the basis formal disciplinary action.
