Act 3, scene 5 (p. 111) • The three witches meet with Hecate. • Hecate is angry. Why?
Act 3, scene 6 (p. 113) • Lennox and an unknown noble person are talking politics. • Lennox talks sarcastically about the suspicious murders—it is clear that he thinks Macbeth has been killing everyone. • The unknown lord tells Lennox that Macduff wants to start a war and overthrow Macbeth.

Act IV, scene i (p. 119) • Macbeth meets with the witches to find out if his rule is secure. • The witches show him 3 apparitions (ghosts/visions)—a head with a warrior helmet, a bloody child, and a child crowned with a tree in his hand. • Macbeth plans to murder Mac. Duff and his family.

Act IV, scene ii, p. 133 • Ross tells Lady Mac. Duff that her husband has fled from Scotland. Ross promises that he will come back to check on her. • She is ANGRY. She thinks it will make him look like a traitor, and she questions if he is a traitor. She also feels abandoned. • She tells her son that he no longer has a dad. They joke about her getting a new husband. • A messenger comes and warns Lady Mac. Duff to run away. She doesn’t, and Macbeth’s murderers come into the house.
