Vaccine status update COVID-19 vaccines Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine (known as COMIRNATY (BNT 162 b 2[m. RNA]) COVID-19 Vaccine) now approved and first shipments arrived in country, with a rollout to priority groups in Phase 1 a commencing mid / late February reported OXFORD / Astra Zeneca - approval received 16/02/21, with a rollout to priority groups in Phase 1 b – 2 b MODERNA/ NOVAVAX /COVAX and others later in the year HNECCPHN. Vaccine roll- out what we know so far • Health Care Australia (HCA) has been announced as the in-reach workforce contractor for Residential Aged Care Facilities for NSW and QLD • PHN representatives have attended Departmental briefings and will be meeting with HCA to discuss the planning of the roll-out • Seven residential aged care facilities on the Central Coast have been identified as the first to receive the vaccines • These facilities have been contacted by the Department of Health and HCA to commence organisation HNECCPHN. COM. AU
RACF Preparation • RACFs will be advised of their vaccination date/s and should ensure that maximum number of residents are available. There will be little room for changing or amending vaccination timetables. • Consents will be responsibility of RACF’s and the usual GP’s. A consent template has been developed and is available. • RACFs will be responsible for communicating with residents, families, staff and other in-scope visitors in relation to the vaccine program arrangements. RACF Preparation • HCA will bring in all the equipment and supplies including consumable. • RACF’s will need to provide appropriate space for the vaccinations. • Guiding documents including templates have been made available and links for these are at the conclusion of this presentation. PHN role in supporting RACF’s • Role of the PHN will include – supporting communication between workforce contractor and facility, assisting them plan their delivery schedule based on our local regional knowledge. • HCA will work with the PHN contact on the specific schedule details of vaccination visits in each region, noting that facilities will require a minimum of two visits. • PHNs will also act as a key communication and liaison point for RACFs for the vaccination program. • PHNs will be a key partner with the Australian Government to progress the rollout of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program for Phase 1 a. Capacity Tracker Vaccination Module and Roll-out • The PHN is developing additional functionality that will allow RACF’s to indicate the number of residents and staff who have been vaccinated. • This will assist with the schedule planning for the in-reach workforce contractor. • RACF’s will be able to activate an alert if there are issues with vaccination levels to activate PHN support. • The vaccination module will be available for RACF’s use in the next week or so - currently being finalised. • Training and guidance will be provided. In summary • Prepare families for fast turn around for consent. • Provide adequate information for residents, families and staff – including regular visiting contractors eg GP’s, Allied Health. • Provide appropriate physical space - according to the guidelines. • Ensure highest level of attendance on vaccination days. • Keep in contact with PHN with any concerns, issues and questions. • Register for Capacity Tracker and keep data up to date.
