Our Cadet Programme Unit Meetings The aims of the VPC scheme are: • To promote a practical understanding of policing amongst all young people • To encourage the spirit of adventure and good citizenship • Support policing priorities through volunteering and give young people a chance to be heard • Inspire young people to participate positively in their communities leics. police. uk 6
Our Cadet Programme Unit Meetings We have cadet units in eight different locations around the county: • • Leicester City Centre East Leicester (Hamilton) South Leicester (Wigston) Charnwood Coalville Hinckley Melton Mowbray Market Harborough leics. police. uk Cadets are asked to pick their top three unit locations 7
Our Cadet Programme Unit Meetings • Units meet once a week during the evenings, either 6 -8 pm or 6 -9 pm, depending on the size of the unit. • Unit meetings follow the school year, so are not run during the school holidays. • Cadet leaders deliver lessons based on the National VPC curriculum and the cadets work towards a workbook. leics. police. uk 8
Our Cadet Programme Unit Meetings • At unit sessions leaders can arrange for inputs from specialist police departments or other emergency services. • Cadets also practice ‘police drill’ marching at unit meetings and take part in teambuilding activities. leics. police. uk 9

Social Action Volunteering Cadets are asked to spend 3 hours per month taking part in social action volunteering “Young people taking practical action in the service of others in order to create positive social change that is of benefit to the wider community as well as to the young person themselves. ” Young Foundation and IVR, 2013 leics. police. uk 11
Social Action Volunteering • Social Action Volunteering is time spent outside of the weekly Unit Meetings. • We ask Cadets to spend 3 hours per month undertaking social action volunteering. leics. police. uk 12
Social Action Volunteering Examples of police cadet social action volunteering: • Assisting the police force with public events Pride, Diwali, Caribbean Carnival • Taking part in operations to support force priorities knife sweeps, test-purchases, speed monitoring • Delivering crime prevention advice leaflet drops, events or door to door leics. police. uk 13

Duke of Edinburgh Leicestershire Police is licensed to deliver the Duke of Edinburgh Award. All Cadets are given the opportunity to complete their D of E award. The force runs Bronze, Silver and Gold expeditions and time spent volunteering as a Cadet will also count towards your award. leics. police. uk 15
