WHAT IS CCZ? v CCZ is an organization which protects consumers from unfair trading

WHAT IS CCZ? v CCZ is an organization which protects consumers from unfair trading practices and helps access to adequate food, goods and services at affordable prices. v The main functions of CCZ are complaints handling, lobbing and advocacy, Advice and Counselling, consumer education and networking.

LINKAGE BETWEEN CCZ WITH UN GUIDELINES ON CONSUMER PROTECTION v v v We to protect consumers from hazards to their health and safety; CCZ and UN are there to promote and protect the economic interests of consumers Both promote Access by consumers to adequate information to enable them to make informed choices according to individual wishes and needs; Both CCZ and UN conduct Consumer education, including education on the environmental, social and economic impacts of consumer choice; Promotion of Availability of effective consumer redress Promote freedom to form consumer action clubs and other relevant groups or organizations and the opportunity of such organizations to present their views in decision-making processes affecting them;

COMPLAINTS HANDLING WITH REGARDS TO COSMETOLOGY Ø Complaints handling is a major function of CCZ which involves the protection of consumers through mediation and conciliation on behalf of consumers on issues of unfair trade practices. The organisation assists consumers to get redress when they have valid complaints. This is also an opportunity to educate service providers on consumer rights i. e. hairdressers. Ø The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe is there to assist consumers to reach an understanding with service providers in the world of cosmetology so that a fair redress can be given to consumers and that service providers may understand their mistakes and the need to be fair in the provision of such services.

CUSTOMER SERVICE &COSMETOLOGY v Consumers have the right to information. It is the responsibility of the service provider to information on how they handle their customers through developing a Service charter. This can be clearly displayed on a place everyone can see on the wall. This helps consumers to know the kind of service and treatment they should expect to get from the service provider and this also makes the service provider accountable.

THE CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT This Act is meant to protect consumers of goods and services by ensuring a level playing field on the market place. Various institutional protection bodies will be created in this endeavour Consumer Rights will be the bedrock of this Act and will outline fundamental rights I think the key issue for this industry will be: - Liability for damage caused by goods/products; Warning concerning fact and nature of risks; right to disclosure of information regarding goods and services; right to redress; right to fair and honest dealing; false and misleading representation This Act will be able to charge penalties.
