Responsibility Ticket Policies Responsibility tickets are used to leave the classroom for any reason. Tickets may also be taken away for incomplete homework assignments if your teacher announces it is a ticket assignment. 8 th grade students get 5 tickets per class per quarter. Responsibility Ticket Policies If a student uses all 5 of their responsibly tickets and still chooses to leave the classroom for bathroom purposes only, they’ll have to use a penalty ticket. The consequence for using the first penalty ticket is a loss of passing time. Your teacher will hold you until the hall is cleared and then send you to your next class with a call or will escort you to your next class. If a student uses their 2 nd penalty ticket, the teacher will assign a 2: 45 pm detention. After the 2 nd penalty ticket has been used, students may only leave the classroom with an administrator, and will lose passing time, and be given an office referral.

Athletics To play sports students must be in good standings academically. Any student athlete who is either failing one or more classes and/or has a grade below a “C-“ in two or more classes will not be eligible to play sports without each of their teachers’ written approval. After getting a travel card, each student will be given one week to get it signed by all of his or her teachers. A teacher’s signature on the class schedule signifies that the student is “OK” and eligible to participate. This would allow for a teacher to take into account if a student has handed in a major project, but hasn’t had a chance to grade it yet; or if a student may appear to have a C- , but did not turn in a major project. Those travel cards need to be turned into Mr. Challender within one week of receiving them. This would allow administration the opportunity to let the coach, athlete and athlete’s parents know that he/she would be eligible or ineligible to participate in the following week’s athletic contests.

10 Ways To Be An Upstander Help others who are being bullied. Be a friend, even if this person is not yet your friend. Go over to them. Let them know how you think they are feeling. Walk with them. Help them to talk to an adult about what just happened. (Just think for a moment about how great this would be if someone did this for you when you were being picked on or hurt!) Stop untrue or harmful messages from spreading. If someone tells you a rumor that you know is untrue or sends you a message that is hurtful to someone else, stand up and let the person know this is wrong. Think about how you would feel if someone spread an untrue rumor about you. Don’t laugh, send the message on to friends, or add to the story. Make it clear that you do not think that kind of behavior is cool or funny. Get friends involved. Let people know that you are an upstander and encourage them to be one too.

10 Ways To Be An Upstander Make friends outside of your circle. Eat lunch with someone who is alone. Show support for a person who is upset at school, by asking them what is wrong or bringing them to an adult who can help. Be aware of the bullying policy at your school and keep it in mind when you witness bullying. If someone is new at your school, make an effort to introduce them around and make them comfortable. Imagine how you would feel leaving your friends and coming to a new school. Refuse to be a “bystander”. If you see friends or classmates laughing along with the bully, tell them that they are contributing to the problem. Let them know that by laughing they are also bullying the victim.

10 Ways To Be An Upstander Respect others' differences and help others to respect differences. It’s cool for people to be different – that’s what makes all of us unique. Join a diversity club at school to help promote tolerance in your school. Help develop a bullying program or project that will help reduce bullying in school. Bring together a team of students, parents and teachers to meet as “Stand Up Ambassadors” to talk about bullying on a regular basis and share stories and support. Talk about the “hot spots” where bullying most likely occurs (ex. the bus, bathroom, an unmonitored hallway) and what can be done on a school level to make sure students and teachers are on the same page about bullying. Learn more about bullying. For example: Why do kids bully? Where does bullying take place most often in your school? What are the effects of bullying? Why are people afraid to get involved? Understanding this information will help you if you are bullied and will help you to stand up to bullies if a friend or classmate is being bullied.

Before School The CR 3 Philosophy applies when you take the first step on school grounds. When you arrive in the morning: Visit your locker to get prepared for the day. This is the time to make sure you have your pencil, agenda and all of you class materials. If you forget something, you’ll still have time to call home so you can be ready for the day. When you leave your locker, it is your responsibility to make sure to twist the combination so others can’t take your stuff. If you were absent or have questions about homework, this is the best time to be responsible and go to see your teachers. Hungry? Eat breakfast in our cafeteria. Be sure to clean-up your mess before you leave the tables. You can respectfully visit with your friends while walking in the halls. Be sure to not hit or shove others and always use a low voice. Walk on the right side of the hallway. Also, only use school appropriate language. Anyone who chooses not to follow the CR 3 philosophy in the mornings will lose this free time.

Tips for Success 8 th grade can be tough! Here are some tips to help: Pay attention: It is very easy to get distracted at school. Try to always focus on the direction you’ve been given. If you don’t understand or miss a part of the directions, ask for clarification. Stay healthy: Wash your hands, get sleep and eat healthy. Doing these things will help you avoid missing school and the valuable lesson. Plus, if you are hungry or tired , you won’t be able to do your best work.

Tips for Success Be involved: After school clubs and sports are an awesome way to help you feel like you are a part of CHS. Get organized: Use you agenda to keep track of important due dates. Have a binder where you can store a folder for each of your classes and extra writing utensils. Do your homework: Having a study routine is important for all students. Set aside time right when you get home from school to complete your homework. No homework? Nonsense! You should read for at 30 minutes each night. If you have strong reading skills, you’ll be an overall stronger student.

Tips for Success Ask questions: Don't be afraid to ask questions. That is how we learn! Always try your best: Don’t just jot don’t any old answer to get your homework done. Take time to answer questions correctly. Even if it means you have to look it up. Be nice: School can be a great place to socialize. If you are nice to everyone, everyone will most likely be nice to you. Don’t spread rumors or lie because those actions will make people not want to be around you. If you smile, treat all students kindly, and be helpful to others, people will want to be around you. Follow the CR 3 Philosophy: Even the smartest students can’t earn good grades if they are not in class. Be sure to follow the CR 3 philosophy so you can stay in class and out
