What is a corporation? Bodies that are set up to perform a function. Can relate to business, government, the local council or sport. In Britain most corporations were arrived at by ‘historical accident’ Norton and Heath Factory Team (1878) Became a professional team in 1885 Took it’s current name as Manchester United Football club 1902 Initially the corporation was geographically based-until the level of players didn’t match the level of the league
What is sponsorship? Money given to an athlete to have them represent the company name. Some sponsorship deals pay more to the athlete than they get through their professional sporting contracts.
