CORPORATE TRAINING PROGRAM
Objective • Build a professional team of employees who attend regular training to help them to excel at their jobs and at the same time improve customer service. • Fair and consistent distribution of training funds. • Control over training costs through centralization. • Introduction of Departmental Trainers. • Creation of a Management Development Training program.
Challenges • Bringing all the training under one umbrella- resistance. • Consistency in delivery of training. • Controlling costs corporate-wide. • Review of ‘Tuition Reimbursement Program. ’
Components • Annual Corporate Training. • Core Orientation Training, Departmental Training and On- the- Job training. • Management Development Certificate Program. • Departmental Trainers – Train-the-Trainer. • Training Library & Database. • External Training Opportunities & Tuition Reimbursement.
Accountability & Administration • Success depends on S. M. T. ’s support and the promotion of the program. • Program will be run by the Human Resources Generalist. • Departmental Trainers will be identified and become an integral part of the program. • External training, all other training costs and tuition reimbursements will be processed , logged and tracked through the Human Resources Generalist.
Training Overview • Corporate Training– supported by SMT scheduled for all staff once or twice a year i. e. Customer Service Training. • Core Training– OHSA, WHMIS, Completion of Performance Evaluations, Accessibility, Workplace Harassment & Violence. • Orientation Training - New employees basic training. • Departmental Training & On-the-Job Training - New employees to the department and/or job. • Management Development Certificate Program - in conjunction with Brock University, designed to enhance skills and performance in the management , line management and supervisory ranks.
Training Overview cont…. • Departmental Trainers – will meet regularly to discuss departmental needs and inconsistencies, will be trained as ‘Train-the-Trainers’ and will assist at corporate training events. Will plan with management the training for the year. • Training Library– will be created with existing DVD’s, videos and other information and will be accessible to Departmental Trainers. • Training Database - will be maintained to ensure regulatory and legislative requirements are met. • Outside Training Opportunities - On-line training, correspondence courses and evening or weekend college or university courses that fall under the ‘Tuition Reimbursement Program. ’ • Tuition Reimbursement - procedure for applying for funds provided the course is work related, is pre-approved and the employee provides a passing grade.
Budget • The program can be run on the existing training budget. • Training materials, DVD’s etc. are covered. • Corporate Training and the creation of the Management Development Certificate Program with Brock University can be factored in to the existing budget. • No additional expense is anticipated.
Summary An organized training program will bring structure, depth and meaning to the process of implementing and delivering training to all employees in a fair and consistent manner.
