My Core Competencies:
Communication. Collaborating: What strategies do you use when collaborating with others? This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-NC-ND
Collaborating: I was able to utilize my ability to collaborate with others throughout my Y. P. I project. I made sure that everyone was on the same page as it is difficult to collaborate in a group when everyone has different expectations and goals. I was the leader of our Y. P. I group and I always made sure to discuss all of our ideas in a positive manner before we made any decisions as a group. This ties into my next strategy which is being open minded. I always made sure that everyone in my group felt included in our group discussions. I encouraged them to share their thoughts and ideas with the group. In my opinion it is important for everyone to contribute ideas either big or small into group projects so that we all feel like we contributed to the final presentation. *the photo is the logo of the foundation we are representing in Y. P. I
Collaborating (Y. P. I) continued: Another strategy I used when collaborating with my group was making sure to set expectations and a time line for when things were due. At the beginning of class my group and I would discuss what needed to be completed by the end of class in order to stay on track. At the end of class we would do a check in to see how much progress we were making. This ensured we were meeting our deadlines. This strategy was very successful. *the photo is a preview of our slam poem for our presentation
Thinking- Creative Thinking: What helps you get new ideas? This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-SA
Creative Thinking (Musical Theatre): I get new ideas in theatre when I: • Talk to my co-actors or directors to get a different perspective on my thinking • Watch videos of the show I am in and study the character I am playing • Try saying my lines differently to help me decide what works best • Collaborate with my scene partners to exchange new ideas with each other *the first photo is from Mamma Mia (last year) and the second one is from Putnam County (the year before)
Personal and social- Social Awareness and Responsibility: How do you use words and actions to encourage other students who might be feeling sad or discouraged? What contributions have you made to your school/ community/ team that you feel good about? How did you get started doing that? This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-ND
Social Awareness and Responsibility (Camp): At summer camp I participated in a six week Staff In Training (S. I. T) program. We took part in a buddy program where you get paired up with a younger camper to hang out with during the session of camp. When one of my buddies Madi or Navah felt sad or discouraged I used a few different strategies to help cheer them up. I would start by talking to them and asking if they are ok. I made time to hang out with them as much as I could when they were feeling down. If they were homesick (which is common in younger campers) I would tell them that everything would be ok and I helped them write letters to their parents. Usually this would distract them from being homesick. If one of them felt like they couldn’t do something I would encourage them to try again and not give up. They both loved when I told them I was their biggest fan. *the first photo is Navah and I and the second one is Madi and I.
Social Awareness and Responsibility continued (school): Some contributions I have made to the school include: • Being inclusive and kind to other students • Always lending a helping hand to students and teachers • Having a positive and enthusiastic attitude in class • Contributing to theatre program • Bringing in a Menorah to represent multi-culturalism • Y. P. I semi-finals, (and in May) finals • Helping with the Seniors Tea • Contributing packets for Move 4 Mana • Volunteering to help out around school
Social Awareness and Responsibility (community): Some contributions I have made to the community include: • Volunteering at the Port Moody Rec Centre, local daycare, cubs bottle drive • S. I. T program (36 hours of volunteer work, learning how to be a staff, leadership skills etc) • Soup kitchen • Handing out food to those in need • Decorating paper bags for a local liquor store (raise awareness for drunk driving)
Conclusion: Collaborating, Creative Thinking and Social Awareness and Responsibility best represent my core competencies and in body who I am as an individual.
