Coordinate Plane The GED Mathematics Test includes two types of non-multiple choice questions. When you need to find a number answer, you’ll record the answer in a standard grid. (see video) The other type of grid is the coordinate plane grid. There will be two coordinate plane grids, one on each part of the GED Mathematics Test.

The center row is the x-axis. It runs horizontally through the grid. The center

The center row is the x-axis. It runs horizontally through the grid. The center column is the y axis. It runs vertically through the grid.

X-Axis The numbers to the right of 0 on the x-axis are positive. The numbers to the left of 0 on the x-axis are negative. Y-Axis The numbers above 0 on the y-axis are positive. The numbers below 0 on the y-axis are negative.

An ordered pair gives the location of a point on a coordinate plane. * The first number of an ordered pair is the x-coordinate, which provides the location of the point in relation to the xaxis. * The second number of an ordered pair is the y-coordinate, which provides the location of the point in relation to the y-axis.

Coordinate Plane 1. Read the question carefully to determine what is being asked. 2. The first number of an ordered pair is the xcoordinate. Find the x-coordinate on the x- axis. 3. The second number of an ordered pair is the y -coordinate. (Just like in the alphabet, x comes before y. ) Locate the y coordinate. Count up for a positive y coordinate or down for a negative y coordinate. 4. Fill in the corresponding bubble (only one!).
