Tips for Families Feel free to talk with teachers and the school counselor about course selections. To earn a high school diploma, students must meet graduation requirements (take the correct courses). Students should take the most challenging classes possible that will prepare them for educational and career opportunities after high school.

Helpful Vocabulary for High School Planning Advanced Placement (AP): • The AP program offers students college-level coursework • The national AP exam is required of all students enrolled in an AP course. • Many colleges grant college credit or advanced placement based on AP exam scores. Career and College Promise A program designed to provide seamless dual enrollment for eligible North Carolina high school juniors and seniors. Accelerates completion of college certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees. These degrees lead to college transfer or provide entrylevel job skills.
Diploma Endorsements Students enrolled in North Carolina high schools can earn endorsements to their High School Diploma. If accepted to a program, is a student eligible to participate in athletics? o. Students accepted into High School Option programs that have athletics are eligible for participation at that school. o. Students accepted into High School Option programs without athletic programs are eligible to participate in athletics at their attendance school only.
How do I access the online magnet/choice application? Application Process Parents/legal guardians, not students, need to complete the application and will be authorized to accept or decline offers made. Applications submitted after 5 pm on March 3 will not be included in the initial selection process but will be considered on a space-available basis. Applications from students whose domicile is outside Guilford County will not be considered. Families can save their applications in draft form until they are complete and ready to submit. Only submitted applications will be considered.
When will I know if my child has been offered a magnet/choice seat? April 23 rd– Notification of High School Option offers Notifications will be communicated by email or text according to the notification method selected when families set up their account. April 30 th—Deadline to accept or decline the offer Wait Pool offers may be made based on space availability.
