Controls Test Stand Test stand proposal document review - Dayle. The activities can be prioritized according to which measurements we need to do first. The first priority are: 1. Cavity BPM prototype 2. CSR bunch length monitor Second priority 3. beam loss monitors 4. Wire scanner motion control Third priority 5. image acquisition Discussion on the needs for each of these with regard to: The SLC aware IOC Timing Gated data acquisition Motor control

BPM Testing • 3 -cavity BPM test at FFTB – Down-mixed signal read into

BPM Testing • 3 -cavity BPM test at FFTB – Down-mixed signal read into something like a Echotek VME card – Needs timing triggers to tell when beam arrives – Additional trigger to control when a diagnostic signal is sent to the BPM – Need to be able to correlate the new BPMs with existing BPMs in the SCP • Use SCP CRR plot when PNET and EVR available • Record pulse id on CRR plot only?

CSR bunch length monitor • Needs beam timing trigger • Gated ADC required to

CSR bunch length monitor • Needs beam timing trigger • Gated ADC required to read signals from pyroelectric detectors, <8 channels – Need to be able to correlate the new GADCs with existing BPMs in the SCP – Standardize on GADC type(s). At least 2 types: charge integrating and sampling. • Interferometer will need stepping motor control and limit switches of mirror position plus readback of position. – Use standard stepping motor and controller etc – Position read back into GADC • Need a method of starting and stopping a scan – For test stand could use CRR – PV – Long term use control device (aka magnet) job • Mirror position during the scan needs to be correlated with the GADC signals and with SCP BPMs

beam loss monitors • Photomultiplier tube, at least 2. – HV supply – Signal

beam loss monitors • Photomultiplier tube, at least 2. – HV supply – Signal readback into a GADC – Beam timing • Signal from GADC to be correlated with BPMs from SCP

Wire scanners • • Stepping motor control, start/stop scan Limit switches Position readback Data

Wire scanners • • Stepping motor control, start/stop scan Limit switches Position readback Data acquisition from beam loss monitors – synchronized

Image acquisition • Camera to ethernet bridge • Beam trigger to camera for single

Image acquisition • Camera to ethernet bridge • Beam trigger to camera for single snapshot • Trigger to retrieve image from camera • Client CPU software to retrieve and process image with the timestamp from the same trigger.
