FIP cycles has been observed and reported to Alstom. • Answer expected from Alstom in July 2005 • Consequences should be precisely evaluated with PO, QPS people • May require a dismantling of the Full. THE HARDWARE INFRASTRUCTURE CONTROLS AND COMMUNICATIONS TIMING DISTRIBUTION NETWORK (GMT) • Current Status – LHC Master Timing Generator installed and operational in MNR – GMT reception in SR 8 has been successfully validated with all QPS and PO gateways using the “legacy solution” (VME technology, FOXCOM multi-mode optical Tx/Rx modules) • Future plans – – Deploy in June 2005 the new timing distribution hardware in SR 8 Finalize definition of timing data (events) for HW commissioning Proceed with the timing hardware installation in Points 7, 1, … Move MTG cluster to C. THE HARDWARE INFRASTRUCTURE CONTROLS AND COMMUNICATIONS SUMMARY (1/2) • Hardware Systems and Components – All hardware choices for the LHC control system are made and their procurement is on track. Large quantities are already in stock – The technical problem with the Alstom World. FIP bus arbiter module has to be understood by end July 2005, to be able to proceed with the installation of the World. FIP Gateways in the next LHC sectors (SR 7, SR 1) – The Timing system is up and running in LHC PT 8 but the impact of interrupting the timing system by end 2005 for installation in the C. C. C should be carefully evaluated and planned. • Installation – The Control system hardware Installation in PT 8 is almost complete, thanks to a solid installation organization and correct staffing. All installed systems are under monitoring and declared in the asset management system (No VME involved!). 5/11/2005 LHC Hardware Commissioning Review M. SUMMARY (2/2) THE HARDWARE INFRASTRUCTURE CONTROLS AND COMMUNICATIONS • Qualifications and Planning Issues – Hardware tests: all possible tests and qualifications are made during installation BUT the final World. FIP qualification is only possible once the cabling is complete and the real equipment is connected to the bus. – Planning: Clear interfaces are established with the project planning but dedicated slots of time to qualify the World. FIP mission critical systems have to be agreed together with the concerned equipment groups and with the HW commissioning WG. In all cases, the final qualification may result in late problems discovery that impact on the foreseen HW commissioning program. 5/11/2005 LHC Hardware Commissioning Review M.
