Contra-Indications
Thrombosis Thrombosis is the formation of a blood clot inside a blood vessel, obstructing the flow of blood through the circulatory system. This can be painful, swollen and superficial veins may be enlarged. Treatment on the area could dislodge the clot moving it around the body which in turn could effect the heart, lungs or brain.
Varicose veins Varicose veins are swollen enlarged veins that are usually blue or dark purple, they may also be lumpy, bulging or have a twisted appearance. These veins can be very painful and are likely to require treatment if they are causing severe discomfort. No treatment should be performed as the veins may rupture.
After heat treatments / Sunburn Heat treatments such as UV exposure / sunburn (sun beds) or steam treatments can make the skin sensitive making it more prone to burning and skin lifting.
Skin Diseases Skin diseases such as scabies or impetigo are highly contagious and are contra-indicated to any beauty treatments as there is a risk of cross infection.
Malignant Melanoma Malignant melanoma is a form of skin cancer, in most cases it is caused by over-exposure to UV light from the sun or sunbeds. This type of cancer can spread to other parts of the body. Melanoma can start from an existing mole which may change in appearance such as irregular shape, colour, size, may be itchy or bleed.
Severe bruising can be painful to work on therefore should be avoid.
Diminished skin sensitivity If the client has loss of tactile sensation they are unable to feel the temperature of the wax which could result in the client being burnt or injured. Due to this no treatment should be performed.
Recent haemorrhage / swelling in the treatment area. A recent haemorrhage would require healing time to prevent causing another haemorrhage if unsure GP referral! If there is any swelling in the area this could indicate an underlying condition which is worked on could make the condition worse again client should seek GP referral
