CPD Definition • “The Nautical Institute defines Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as the systematic maintenance, improvement and broadening of knowledge and skills, and the development of personal qualities necessary for execution of professional and technical duties throughout the individual's working life, at sea and ashore”. • (adapted from Todd, summarised in Friedman and Woodhead 2008: p. 95, as amended Haughton).
