Hands must be disinfected before entering the room Gloves must be worn to enter the room. Gowns must be worn when clothing may contact the patient, environmental surfaces, or contaminated items. Private room. When a private room is not available, the patient may be placed in a semi-private room with a patient who is infected with the same organism. Special airflow rooms are not necessary. Doors may remain open. Gowns and gloves are removed when leaving the patient’s room. Soap and water wash is required to remove spores by friction. Medicated soap or alcohol hand rub will not destroy C. difficile spores. Visitors should be asked to sanitize hands when entering and to wash when leaving the patient’s room. Patients should be transported for essential; purposes only. The patient should wear a clean outer cover gown and disinfect his/her hands. The ticket to ride will be completed and the receiving department will notified that Contact Precautions Plus are required. When cleaning a Contact Precaution Plus room use hospital approved bleach-based disinfectant on all surfaces after they are cleaned with Sanimaster 4. The one exception is the floor which will be cleaned with only Sanimaster 4. Pay special attention to “High Touch” surfaces : bedrails, mattress, head & foot boards, bedside table, bathroom fixtures, commodes, pull cords, call buttons, door knobs, telephones, computer key boards, and all horizontal surfaces.
