Now a new syllable type – consonant-le • The sounds that make the word apple /ă//p/ /p//l/ Apple has two syllables, the first closed syllable, and the second syllable which has no vowel sound. This syllable type can only be at the end of a word.
Now a new syllable type – consonant-le • The consonant-le syllable has a silent e at the end, because a syllable has to have a vowel. • Apple has two of the letter “p” to keep the letter “a” short. Each “p” makes a sound. Ap|ple What sound would it make with only one letter “p”?
