Consider…. I’ve heard similar situations happening all around the USA, even though I can’t of specific instances…they are known to happen. 1. 2. 3. 4. At a hospital, there are 2 men with the same, life-threatening disease. One is: quite wealthy, and very high insurance coverage. The other: a rather poor man, with no influence and virtually no insurance coverage. They both require an extensive, complicated surgery , and the hospital can only do one per certain period of time…one man will receive the operation, the other will die because his condition is too poor and he can’t wait. 5. The Chief • • of Medicine has to decide which man to give the surgery to: If he gives it to the “rich man, ” the hospital will receive a great deal money…which can then diverted to other programs. Such as: pregnancy support for low-income women, more up-to-date cancer treatment equipment, purchasing more vaccines for serious illnesses…etc. If he gives the surgery to the poor man: the hospital will receive barely any money…if at all. (Some low-income individuals are on national medical plans. Medicare, Obama care, etc. ) The Chief of Medicine has decided to give the operation to the “rich man. ” The hospital receives funding for many programs and equipment. The “poor man” dies.
