II. Hyaline Cartilage A. "Glass" B. Most common cartilage
III. Elastic Cartilage A. Provides elasticity B. Ex: External ear IV. Fibrocartilage A. Highly compressible B. Ex: Forms discs between vertebrae
V. Dense Connective Tissue A. Mainly Collagen fibers B. Examples: 1. Tendons 2. Ligaments
VI. Areolar Tissue A. Most widely distributed connective tissue B. Soft, pliable tissue C. Contains all fiber types D. Can soak up excess fluid
VII. Adipose Tissue A. Areolar tissue with mostly fat globules B. Many cells contain large lipid deposits C. Functions: 1. Insulates the body 2. Protects some organs 3. Site of fuel storage
VIII. Reticular Connective Tissue A. Network of interwoven fibers B. Forms internal network of lymph organs 1. Lymph nodes 2. Spleen 3. Bone marrow
IX. Blood A. Blood cells surrounded by fluid matrix B. Fibers are visible during clotting C. Functions as the transport vehicle for materials
